Geography

Our vision is to develop children's curiosity of both their immediate surroundings and of places and environments in the wider world. We aim to instil an interest, fascination, and desire to investigate a variety of human and physical characteristics of different places, both local and afar, through purposeful and engaging teaching, questioning and self-directed research.

We want our children to have a sound understanding of the location of places in our world and how these places are similar and how they are different. We want to inspire children to want to know more about the world in which they live. We want children to understand that they have responsibilities to sustain the world now and as they get older.

At Mont Nicolle School, we provide children with the opportunity to engage in a wide range of geographical topics, raising and answering questions about the natural and human worlds. Our children begin by learning about their local area, before comparing this with regions in the Channel Islands, United Kingdom and the wider world. The teaching of geography also encourages our children to think about their place in the world, their values and their rights and responsibilities to the environment.
