Art
At Mont Nicolle School, we provide our children with the opportunity to engage in Art and Design projects to engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express their own responses to ideas and experiences.
Art and Design provides our children with the skills, concepts and knowledge to develop ways of understanding, enjoying and responding to the world. At Mont Nicolle School, we have high expectations of our children whilst they explore Art and Design through a range of Printing, Drawing, Painting, Collage, Texture and 3D Form techniques. Where possible, we aim to link Art and Design with other areas of the Jersey Curriculum being taught across each year group in order to bring other topics to life.
Our children take inspiration from nature, design and will also learn about great artists, architects and designers in history. Our natural environment is drawn upon in many areas of our Art curriculum - the children are often taken outside to create Art within our own school grounds, as well as in our local area. We use sketchbooks to help children to develop their ideas and to show and assess progression in their artistic ability. Our Art is celebrated by creating individual class displays and whole-school displays to bring our Artwork together as a community. We also celebrate and recognise the work children bring into school from home.
