Science
At Mont Nicolle we believe passionately about developing children's independence, team work and collaboration in Science through high expectations. Our core values of Care, Believe and Succeed underpin the children’s learning.
We believe that making mistakes is a key aspect of learning and that it is a crucial part of scientific discovery. In addition, by giving children this freedom to make mistakes and work together they can develop key working scientifically skills and develop a higher resilience.
Real-life experiences are a fundamental part of our approach and members of the community are invited in to share their experience and expertise. A holistic approach to teaching and learning allows children to explore Science in a cross-curricular manner. Being an Island, we are extremely lucky to have opportunities to visit local beaches and the surrounding area. Furthermore, our Forest School and plantation offers a wide variety of different animals and plants for the children to observe and demonstrate their curiosity.
By continually questioning we offer the children opportunities for challenge and to stretch their Scientific skills. Children leave Mont Nicolle with a high level of critical and evaluative thinking which can be transferred to all areas of the curriculum.
Children are naturally curious and passionate about learning. At Mont Nicolle we provide a stimulating Science Curriculum that nurtures this curiosity and allows pupils to ask questions and develop the skills they need to answer those questions.
