History
Our vision is to inspire the pupils' curiosity to know more about the past and to consider the fundamental historical concepts of continuity and change, cause and consequence, significance, and similarities and differences, within the different periods studied. Local history is vitally important as a Jersey school, and we aim to provide a curriculum that teaches the most significant parts of our local history, in line with the Jersey Curriculum, as well as that of the UK and beyond.
We seek to broaden children's real-life experiences both inside and outside of school through educational visits, visitors, exploration, and discovery. We believe that within history lessons, our children acquire a range of knowledge and skills, which they can then apply to other subjects and in a variety of situations.
At Mont Nicolle School, we aim to stimulate the children’s curiosity and understanding about the lives of real people and real events from the past. We provide the children with the opportunity learn about a wide range of British and World historical topics, from Prehistoric right up to significant events of the 20th century, making as many links as possible to celebrate Jersey’s own history. We teach children about how past events influence the present day and through this we aim to develop the children’s skills of research, enquiry, analysis and interpretation.
