English
English is a fundamental area of the curriculum. The gradual mastery of it is not restricted to the specific daily lessons but is further developed and encouraged throughout the curriculum. English includes spoken language, phonics, reading, writing, punctuation, grammar and spelling. Our aim is to equip all our pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written language, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for pleasure and information.
Our English vision is to foster a love of reading and writing through the use of high-quality texts and books to inspire, excite and engage our children. We want all our children to be able to read and write fluently and to have a broad and varied vocabulary by the time they leave Year 6. We want our children to be confident to speak in a variety of contexts from small groups to larger performances. We want our children to develop their ideas and vocabulary through the texts, experiences, subjects and learning that they partake in both in and out of school. We want our children to be creative in their written and spoken work and to not be constrained.
